Volunteer with OCS

If you think quality science education is important for Ohio's students then why not volunteer with OCS to help maintain strong state wide science standards?

Here are some of the things you can do to help:
  • Write letters to the editors of your local paper. For some tips on content for your letters select the Letters menu option above and look for the link to "Leter writing tips." Here is Contact Information

  • Write to the education committee concerning bills House Bill 481 and House Bill 484 . These bills would do two things. Bill 481 would require the inclusion of "the full range of scientific views that exist regarding the origins of life," a catchphrase for the inclusion of intelligent design. Bill 484 usurps the authoriy of the Board of Education by requiring approval of both the Ohio Senate and House for the new scientific standards. Here is Contact Information

  • Write letters to the Ohio Board of Education. Their contact information can be found at links in the section on the menu above labeled Board of Education. Here is Contact Information

  • Help spread the word through your own email contacts and colleagues. Tell them about this web site and urge them to join OCS.

  • Do you know clergy members who would be willing to speak out in favor of evolution education and against bringing creationism into science classrooms? We woud very much like to have their written statements on our theology page.

  • Start a discussion group about the creationism/evolution issue at your house of worship. The National Center for Science Education has a study guide as a companion for the PBS/WGBH series Evolution that can help you get started.

  • Talk to business owners and business leaders in your community. Do they have any opinions on this issue? How do they feel knowing that if Ohio compromises its science education curriculum companies may think twice before locating here?
